Purpose£ºThe purpose of this study was to help psychodramatists better understand the process of sexual offending in order to enhance the effectiveness of psychodrama intervention.
Methods£ºData were collected through in-depth interviews with five sexual offenders under probation from July to September of 2012. Data were analyzed using Giorgi`s phenomenological data analysis.
Results£ºThe analysis resulted in nine essential components, 28 sub-components and 57 meaningful units. Nine essential components are as follows: ``encounter: curiosity from ordinary life,`` ``till the day of offending: changing from curiosity to sexual expectation,`` ``at the moment of offending: forcing sexual act under alcohol intoxication,`` ``during the offending: unexpected response from victim, and frustration,`` ``till arrest: dark side of mind,`` ``arrest: release of anxiety,`` ``family and myself: ambivalence,`` ``community and myself: probation, women, alcohol,`` ``current myself: can I go back to ordinary life?``
Conclusion£ºThe findings could be used as a valuable guide for psychodramatists to help sexual offenders change their cognitive, emotional, interpersonal patterns during psychodrama intervention.
